Before your
first hello.

What do I need to get started?

A running Nest server and its connection address, plus accounts for the services you want to connect. Once you've installed Portal, enter your Nest connection details in the app's settings. Portal does not include a hosted Nest account.

Which accounts can I connect?

Nest supports email through IMAP and SMTP, Slack workspaces, and Signal. Signal connects as a linked device to your existing Signal account. Account setup happens through your Nest installation.

Does Magpie replace my existing accounts?

No. Your email address, Slack workspaces, and Signal account stay yours. Magpie brings their conversations into one desktop interface.

Where do my messages live?

Nest stores messages on the server you run, and Portal keeps a local cache on your device. Nest can read the messages it stores, so securing your server and device matters. Encryption depends on the connected service; Magpie does not add end-to-end encryption across all channels.
